Change in regime is 'far closer' after Wagner Group rebellion, Putin critic says

Former oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky told ABC News the opposition must prepare to exploit future uprisings. Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the exiled former oligarch and one of Vladimir Putin's best-known critics, has campaigned for years to end the Russian leader's rule. Over the weekend, as Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin's rebellious fighters advanced towards Moscow, Khodorkovsky stood out among Russia's liberal pro-democracy opposition in calling for people to support the mercenary revolt and to seize upon it as a chance to finally bring down Putin's autocratic regime . Despite it fizzling hours later, Khodorkovsky told ABC News that Prigozhin's uprising had exposed Putin's regime as extraordinarily weak and showed Russia's democratic opposition should prepare now to take advantage of similar opportunities. Espargaro saw Binder exceeding track limits in Dutch MotoGP battle

Image
The Aprilia rider proved spot-on with his assessment of Binder’s mistake at Turn 8 on the last lap, with confirmation of the South African’s one-place demotion coming moments after the chequered flag. While that meant that KTM rider Binder had managed to lose a podium finish twice on the same weekend, Aprilia was able to celebrate its first rostrum since Maverick Vinales came home second at the year’s opening grand prix in Portugal. Though Binder said he hadn’t been aware of the mistake himself, Espargaro said after the race: “It was clear. I knew that Brad was struggling in the last laps with the soft tyre. He was sliding everywhere. “He accelerated very early at that corner [Turn 8] to try to protect the next corner, because I was very close, and he made a mistake. I knew clearly from the moment he touched the green. “I feel sorry for him, but rules are rules. “We had a good fight. He’s a very talented rider and I think we’re the fastest ones without a [Ducati] re...

MotoGP Dutch GP: Bagnaia wins from Bezzecchi to extend points lead

Image
The factory Ducati rider held off sprint race winner Marco Bezzecchi to avenge Saturday’s contest, in which Bagnaia had had to settle for second. As Bagnaia celebrated an increased point s lead of 35 point s over Jorge Martin and 36 over Bezzecchi, Aprilia enjoyed a podium finish for Aleix Espargaro. The Sunday race began in similar fashion to Saturday’s sprint, with Bezzecchi once again failing to convert his pole position to an early lead. Once again it was KTM’s Brad Binder who leapt into the lead ahead of Bagnaia and Bezzecchi. And once again the factory Ducati man demoted the South African early. This time, however, Binder hung on far longer in second place, with Bezzecchi holding watch behind him. Despite the hot track surface, Binder had opted for a soft rear tyre. This went against the other front-runners, with a medium rear being the mainstream choice. It was lap 17 before Bezzecchi finally made his move on Binder. At that point , Bagnaia was a second up the road – ...
