PGMOL to release VAR audio of Anthony Gordon's controversial winner against Arsenal

Refereeing body PGMOL will release the audio of officials deliberating Anthony Gordon's controversial winner for Newcastle in their Premier League clash with Arsenal earlier in November. Gunners manager Mikel Arteta unleashed a furious rant after his side were downed 1-0 by the Magpies at St James' Park, labelling the decision to allow Gordon's strike to stand "embarrassing" and a "disgrace". The goal went through three steps of checks by the video assistant referee as they adjudicated on whether the ball had gone out of play, if Gabriel Magalhaes had been fouled by Joelinton and if an offside had taken place. While Arsenal doubled down in their support of Arteta after the game, claiming "PGMOL urgently needs to address the standard of officiating", the Premier League's Key Match Incidents Panel ruled referee Stuart Attwell and VAR Andy Madley got the decision right. How often do the Supporters’ Shield winners lift the MLS Cup?

FC Cincinnati kick-start their post-season campaign on Sunday evening against New York Red Bulls. Cincy were the runaway winners of the 2023 Supporters’ Shield, the trophy awarded to the team who pick up the most points during the regular season. They became just the second team in MLS History to win their first ten home fixtures and captain Luciano Acosta is expected to be named Landon Donovan MLS MVP. You might think that Cincinnati will be the favourites to lift MLS Cup on December 9, but history suggests otherwise. Across the past 27 seasons the Supporters’ Shield winners have only gone on to win MLS Cup on eight occasions : 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2008, 2011, 2017 and 2022. In four of the first seven seasons the Supporters’ Shield winner also lifte...

Harry Maguire has thanked the Manchester United fans for singing his name after he netted the winner in his side's 1-0 victory over Kobenhavn on Tuesday . A long-time target for criticism, Maguire is no longer a regular starter at Old Trafford but has enjoyed a positive string of performances under Erik ten Hag, culminating in the winning goal against Kobenhavn - a result sealed after a stoppage-time penalty save from another under-pressure figure, Andre Onana. Maguire's strike was met with a chorus of praise from supporters, and the centre-back was ecstatic that his positive form has not gone unappreciated. "It is amazing," he told TNT Sports after the match. "When you are not on your Game it gets picked up, but I am really proud and pleased how I have acted over this six to 12 months. "I have been given an opportunity and I want to help the team and get the club back to where it should be." Maguire handed his side the win / Jan Kruger/GettyImages L...
