Man City 2-0 Everton: Player ratings as Haaland double sinks Toffees

Image
Erling Haaland's second-half brace fired Manchester City to a hard-fought 2-0 win at home to Everton on Saturday afternoon. "It's simple," Pep Guardiola shrugged ahead of the match. "They are players that win games by themselves." Haaland didn't quite overhaul Everton singlehandedly but provided the inspiration City needed to break through their admirably stubborn visitors. A victory on Saturday lunchtime sent City top of the Premier League table for the first time since November - the same month that last brought a goal for Haaland in any com Pet ition - ahead of Liverpool's meeting with Burnley this weekend. How the game unfolded The suspended Sean Dyche may have been shackled to the stands on Saturday but his players could not have been more disciplined off the ball if the Everton boss was barking out orders from within the centre circle. Out of hope more than expectation, Dyche reminded everyone of City's sporadic fallibilities. "Now an...

Man City vs Everton - Premier League: TV channel, team news, lineups and prediction

Image
After rounding off Gameweek 22 with a 3-1 win at Brentford, Manchester City open up the Premier League's weekend action by hosting Everton at Saturday lunchtime. City fell behind at the Gtech on Monday night against opponents that have had success against them in the past, but a Phil Foden hat-trick ensured the visitors walked away with three points to leave them in a strong position in the title race. Pep Guardiola's side are still unbeaten since Christmas and have won their last nine Game s in all com Pet itions. Everton, meanwhile, desperately need to start picking up points soon to ease their relegation fears. Luton Town's impressive run has seen Sean Dyche's side slip down to 18th, with the Toffees winless in their last three (a run which includes an FA Cup defeat to the Hatters). They snatched a point last time out against Tottenham; a contest they probably deserved to win. Here's 90min's preview of Saturday's Premier League clash. What time does Man...

Son Heung-min returning to Tottenham as South Korea eliminated from Asian Cup

Image
Son Heung-min will soon return to Tottenham Hotspur after his South Korea side were surprisingly dumped out of the Asian Cup on Tuesday. Always among the favourites to win the competition, South Korea fell 2-0 to Jordan in one of the biggest surprises of the tournament. Qatar or Iran await in the final. While an obvious blow to Son and South Korea, Spurs fans will undoubtedly be keen to see their star forward back at club level slightly sooner than expected. Brighton & Hove Albion are Spurs' next opponents on February 10, which will likely come too soon for Son, but the visit from Wolverhampton Wanderers seven days later may be a realistic return date for the 31-year-old. Spurs had been scheduled to face Chelsea in the final week of February but that Game has been postponed due to the Blues' involvement in the Carabao Cup final. Tottenham to sensationally beat Barcelona to Swedish wonderkid - report

Tottenham Hotspur are set to beat Barcelona to the signing of teenage midfielder Lucas Bergvall, according to a report . Bergvall had widely been expected to sign for Barca this week having spent much of this week in Catalonia - sources told 90min on Wednesday that Spurs had been hopeful rather than optimistic of that deal falling through. But David Ornstein of The Athletic report s Bergvall has had a change of heart and will instead sign for Tottenham. Spurs' push this week was fronted by technical director Johan Lange, while the 17-year-old also held talks with head coach Ange Postecoglou and chairman Daniel Levy in recent days. Bergvall's decision to snub Barcelona for Tottenham was made on Thursday night and he will now undergo a medical ahead of his an £8.5m move from Djurgarden. He will remain at the Swedish club until the end of the season before joining up with Spurs' senior squad in the summer. Tottenham have been among Europe's most active operators in the J...

Premier League predictions: Gameweek 22

Image
Whether toasting your team's progression in the FA Cup or mourning a manager's announced departure, there was plenty to get your teeth stuck into over the past weekend. Maidstone United etched another chapter into their memorable cup run with victory at Ipswich Town while Jurgen Klopp announced he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, but there's little time to reflect on such events as the Premier League returns in midweek. The Reds will want to retain their five-point lead at the top of the table in Wednesday's clash with Chelsea, while Arsenal kick-start the gameweek with a trip to Nottingham Forest. With some other crackers in store, here's how 90min sees Gameweek 22 panning out. Arsenal to face Bayern Munich competition for key midfield target

Bayern Munich have joined the race to sign Real Sociedad midfield er Martin Zubimendi alongside Arsenal, according to a report. Zubimendi, 24, has blossomed into a star since coming through the Sociedad youth system, boasting close to 200 appearances for his club and attracting interest from some of Europe's elite sides in the process. Barcelona have long been tipped to move for Zubimendi, who has been compared to Camp Nou favourite Sergio Busquets, but his £52m release clause has made it tough for Barca to make any firm move for his signature. Arsenal have also been following Zubimendi for months and could attempt to lure him over this summer, but BILD state they will have to fend off competition from Bayern Munich to do so. Zubimendi is said to be among Bayern's top target s for the summer as they seek to rejuvenate their midfield , with current general Joshua Kimmich heavily linked with an exit at the end of the season. Man Utd set to appoint Man City chief as new CEO in stunning move

When is Son Heung-min back for Tottenham from 2023 Asian Cup?

Image
2022/23 was Son Heung-min's least productive campaign since his debut season in north London. "I was in pain every single moment, literally," the South Korean would later admit, although the pain wasn't caused by Antonio Conte or Cristian Stellini's pre-historic ideals, but by a hernia. 2023/24, however, has seen Son return to his vintage self. The man who chuckles every time he hears the phrase "xG" has been emboldened by Ange Postecoglou's arrival, the Aussie's gung-ho style and his newfound responsibility as club captain. Amid a barrage of injuries and suspensions, Son has so far been a constant, notching 17 goal contributions in 20 Premier League games. However, the Asian Cup means the South Korean superstar will have to endure his own absence from domestic action for a little while. When does the 2023 AFC Asian Cup start? Erik ten Hag explains what went wrong for Man Utd against West Ham

Image
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag admits his side "switched off" as they slumped to a devastating 2-0 defeat to West Ham United on Saturday. Late goals from Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus provided a spark to a Game which was otherwise flat and saw West Ham leapfrog United in the Premier League table. After the game, Ten Hag insisted he was generally satisfied with the performance and blamed a lapse in concentration for his side's downfall. "I think we had a solid performance," he told TNT Sports . "I think we controlled the Game . We performed very solid, controlling the Game in possession. "We didn't give chances away in transition, but we have to score. We had the opportunities and we didn't do it, and then one moment of switching off, we conceded the goal."
